AI Data Usage
AB-Labz includes an optional AI-powered insights feature. This page explains which AI provider is used, what data is sent to it, and what protections are in place.
1. AI Provider
The AI insights feature uses the OpenAI API (operated by OpenAI LLC, USA). AB-Labz calls OpenAI's API programmatically to generate natural-language summaries and interpretations of analysis results.
OpenAI is listed as a sub-processor in Subprocessors. The international data transfer to OpenAI (US) is covered by Standard Contractual Clauses, as described in International Data Transfers.
2. What Is Sent to OpenAI
Raw Experiment Data is never sent to OpenAI.
Only aggregated statistical outputs from completed analyses are included in prompts.
When generating AI insights, AB-Labz sends to OpenAI:
- Aggregated analysis results (e.g., p-values, effect sizes, confidence intervals, metric names)
- Experiment configuration metadata (e.g., experiment name, group labels, metric definitions)
- Statistical summaries and intermediate calculation outputs
The following data is never included in prompts to OpenAI:
- Raw CSV or API datasets (Experiment Data)
- Individual-level event data or user identifiers
- Account data or personal data belonging to platform users
- Runner data (it never reaches AB-Labz servers)
3. OpenAI's Data Handling
AB-Labz uses OpenAI's API under a data processing agreement with OpenAI that includes:
- Zero data retention by default: API inputs and outputs are not stored by OpenAI after the request is processed (typically within 30 days, and by agreement not retained for reuse).
- No model training on API data: Data submitted through the API is not used to train or improve OpenAI's models.
- Standard Contractual Clauses apply to the EU → US transfer.
OpenAI's data handling policies for API customers are documented at openai.com/policies/api-data-usage-policies.
4. Opting Out of AI Features
The AI insights feature is optional. Customers who do not wish to use it can:
- Disable AI insights in the Workspace settings.
- Contact [email protected] to have the feature disabled at the account level.
When AI insights are disabled, no data is sent to OpenAI. All other platform features remain fully functional.
5. AI and Runner Deployments
For Corporate Self-hosted deployments, the Runner component processes Experiment Data entirely within the Customer's own infrastructure. Whether AI insights are used in Runner deployments depends on the Customer's configuration:
- If the AI insights feature is enabled and configured to call the OpenAI API, the Customer's Runner will send aggregated analysis results to OpenAI directly (subject to the same protections described above).
- If the AI insights feature is disabled, no data is sent to OpenAI from Runner.
- Customers may configure Runner to use a different AI provider or a self-hosted model; in that case, the terms of that provider apply.
6. AI Outputs Are Advisory Only
AI insights are for informational purposes only.
AI-generated insights, summaries, and recommendations produced by the platform should not be the sole basis for business decisions. AI outputs may contain errors or reflect limitations in the underlying model. The Customer is solely responsible for verifying and interpreting AI-generated content. See Terms of Service, Section 9 for the full disclaimer.
